New footage exposes pressing need for Herbie’s Law
Have you seen it? Why we need Herbie’s Law NOW
The Daily Mail has just published an exposé which shows some of the horrific suffering experienced by animals in British laboratories. You can read our statement on the footage.
Let us be clear. This isn’t evidence of lawbreaking or a few rogue scientists breaking the law. This is legally approved and sanctioned suffering.
The footage lays bare a broken regulatory system. The Home Office issues ‘generic licences’ for the types of experiments shown in the footage. These ‘licences’ are often granted without the Home Office even knowing what specific substances will be used, or what will be done to the animals involved, making them effectively a blank cheque.
At the General Election, the Government made a manifesto commitment to work towards phasing out animal testing and has promised the ‘most ambitious animal welfare programme in a generation’. This footage makes a mockery of these promises.
We need your help
Together, over the past 12 months, we have ramped up the pressure on the Government to take decisive action to banish animal testing to where it belongs – the history books.
This footage underscores the urgent need for the Government to introduce Herbie’s Law and end these practices for good.
