Breaking: new stats show 2.64 million procedures using animals in 2024 

The statistics of scientific procedures on living animals, Great Britain: 2024 have just been published by the Home Office and make for distressing reading.  

2.64 million experiments involving animals took place in 2024. This represents a negligible 1.21% decrease compared to 2023.  

16,147 procedures were carried out using specially protected species (cats, dogs, horses and non-human primates). 2,646 procedures used dogs (30% decrease compared to 2023), 82 procedures used cats (30% increase), 11,483 procedures used horses (0.6% increase) and 1,936 procedures used non-human primates (10.7% decrease).
